- Scorching records broken as South Australia swelters through heatwave
As you may be aware, yesterday was hot as hell. South Australia experienced an intense heatwave, with soaring temperatures breaking records across the region. Adelaide sizzled at 41.2 degrees, a degree and a half cooler than our hottest day in history; 42.7 degrees on January 24, 2021. Yesterday is our hottest day since. The scorching conditions extended beyond city limits, with Kyancutta claiming the title of the hottest spot in the state, recording a blistering 47.2 degrees. Tarcoola closely followed at 47.1 degrees, and Wudinna reached a peak of 46.8 degrees. These extreme temperatures underscore the severity of the heatwave gripping South Australia. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) highlighted that the soaring temperatures were fueled by an exceptionally hot air mass preceding a low-pressure trough near the state on Tuesday. This combination led to severe heatwave conditions in northern SA and forecasted extreme heatwave conditions in the Northwest Pastoral district. The day commenced with high temperatures for many towns in South Australia, exemplified by Oodnadatta hitting 35.9 degrees Celsius at 7:42 am ACDT. Adelaide's temperature surged over 30 degrees by 9 am and exceeded 38 degrees by midday. The city ultimately reached a high of 41 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. This heatwave has left its mark as Adelaide encountered its warmest day in almost three years. Despite the scorching conditions, relief is on the horizon, as the weather bureau anticipates a cool change to sweep through South Australia tonight. This shift in weather patterns brings hope for some respite from the intense heat that has gripped the region. South Australia endured a sweltering day, shattering temperature records and prompting concerns about the impact of the heatwave on communities. As the region awaits the anticipated cool change, residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to cope with the challenging weather conditions.
